Thimbles and Acorns Wrapped Kalasaris Dress: Pattern Review

On the evening of Halloween, I saw a picture of a little girl dressed as an Egyptian for Halloween. I immediately sat down and sewed her the Thimbles and Acorns Wrapped Kalasaris dress, available at Pixie Faire. This is a style of dress that was worn in ancient Egypt.

I meant to sew the little girl this dress eventually, but I thought I would wait until she was older. Seeing her Halloween costume changed my mind; it would be so fun for her and her doll to dress up together.

The sewing of the kalasaris dress is easy; putting the dress on required a page of instructions in the pattern. I asked the pattern designer, Sharri Fuller, for permission to include this page if I made the dress as a gift, and she graciously granted permission.

This is what the finished dress looks like before you put in on the doll:

It's a simple rectangle with two straps and three loops.

When you follow the instructions to put it on, it looks like this in the front:

And this in the back:

The straps go through the three loops and are tied in a bow with one loop, called the Isis knot.

We will see if the little girl's mom wants to kill me after she has to assist her daughter in taking this on and off.

This dress is incredibly easy to sew, and serves as a history lesson as well.
