Quilt-a-long completed!

I started working on the quilt-a-long from American Girl Collectors over two years ago. I am pleased to share that I finally finished the quilts!

I made two of each block so that I would have two quilts at the end.

For most of the blocks, I reversed the colors on the patterns, or at least switched them around.

It was fun to see how different the blocks looked, even with the same fabric, by changing the colors to different positions.

As you can see, I also reversed the colors on the borders.

I also used different block layouts for each quilt, just to shake things up some more.

I also learned a lot about precision in making these quilt blocks. This is always important in quilting, but more so when you are using such tiny pieces!

This was a great project and I am so happy to finally have finished the quilts. I was so afraid I would lose the pieces!

Mini Quilt-A-Long

I finally made blocks nineteen and twenty for the mini quilt quilt-a-long that I started two and a half years ago.

Yay for finishing up on UFOs! (that's unfinished objects for you non-quilters.

The blocks are Sawtooth Star and Dutchman's Puzzle.

The blue and green fabrics turned out to be darker than I expected compared to the other fabrics I used in this project, but oh well.
Variety is the spice of life.

I have now finished the quilt tops and hope to have pictures of the finished quilts to post soon!

November Mini Quilt-a-Long

Well, I am glad to be caught up on the quilt-a-long again.

This month, there were three blocks.

This one is called Birds in the Air.

This one is called Shoofly.

This one is called Water Wheel Variation. I think I should have used fabrics with greater contrast. That was the least of my worries, though. I think I made every possible mistake while sewing them. I cut out the wrong amounts of fabric, I sewed the wrong combinations together, etc. It is a relief to have them done.

September Mini Quilt-A-Long

Here they are finally- the September blocks of the month!

They are Card Trick and Old Maid's Puzzle. I have made a 12 inch Card Trick before, and it was much more challenging at this size.

After making Card Trick, Old Maid's Puzzle was a breeze!

And here are all the blocks so far! Wow! These are going to make some pretty quilts.

August Mini Quilt-a-Long

Here are the blocks for August!

Not only am I all caught up, but now I am halfway through the quilt-a-long! Yay!

Here is one of my favorite blocks, the Ohio star. I would have been way too intimidated to try to scale it down to a three inch block, but here it is!

Here is the Double Pinwheel, another old friend of mine.

All of the blocks for August in one place! And not a speck of pink in sight!

July Mini Quilt-a-Long

I got a little bit behind on the mini Quilt-a-Long at American Girl Collectors.

So now I am playing catch up!

Woodbines does an outstanding job on writing instructions for these blocks and calculating the blocks to mini size. I really enjoy this quilt-a-long an am grateful for the work she puts into it.

On to the blocks!

This is the Churn Dash block, It is one I have made many times in full size.

This is the Greek cross. I have never made this block before. I really love the way this project is broadening my quilting horizons!

Here are the July blocks together. I know I said I was done with pink and purple, but I had been meaning to make blocks in this color combination, and the fabrics were already out.

Now I need to make the blocks for August!

June Mini Quilt-a-Long

I went away on a teeny vacation, and did not get any doll pictures.

But now I am back!

Here are the June blocks for the mini quilt-a-long.

One is my old friend the Friendship Star, and the other is the Prairie Queen.

I just can't believe it is the middle of June already! Time is flying by.

AGC Mini Quilt-A-Long

I am a member at American Girl Collectors, and we are having a Mini Quilt-A-Long. led by the wonderful member Woodbines. Every month she posts directions for two mini quilt blocks.

At the end of twelve months, we will have enough blocks for a doll quilt!

Or two in my case, I am making two of each block.

May is the second month of this Quilt-A-Long so far.

Here are all of my blocks to date.

I am using a scrappy color scheme.

This is the Broken Dishes block,

This is is the Pinwheel block.

This is the Road to Arkansas block.

This is the Pennsylvania block.

And nine patches!

Although I have made doll quilts before, this Quilt-A-Long is giving me the courage to work with even tinier pieces than before. I am really loving this and can't wait to make next month's blocks!

Molly Thrift Store Find

I found Pleasant Company's trunk for Molly! It was $20 and I found it in a pile of stuff in the garage (!) of my local thrift store. It...
