A Dress for Draculaura

 My friend talked me into buying a Scare-adise Draculaura. 

(You know who you are, and I know you are very proud of yourself.)

I didn't want her to be stuck in a swimsuit year round, so I needed to sew her a dress.

I made the Requiem Art Designs Petite Curvy Goth Girl pattern.

I had the perfect fabric in the form of a fat quarter that I bought at Wal-Mart a few years ago.

I did most of the sewing by hand, since the pieces were so mall. I was sitting on the couch with all the tiny pieces in a bowl. 

I am not sure about the collar. I feel like it didn't turn out as well as I would like. I am not sure white was the best color for it either, but I couldn't think of what other color to use.

The bodice fit is a little loose on her. It doesn't look bad. I just don't know if I should have bought the petite small size instead.

The sleeves are so narrow that I had to take her hands off to get it on her. Thanks goodness for removeable hands!

Hopefully, this will not be the last dress I made for Draculaura.

Birthday Rapunzel Dresses

 Today is my friend's birthday. One of her favorite dolls is her Disney Animators Rapunzel.

I used a Requiem Art Designs pattern to make her several dresses for her Punzie.

All of the dresses are purple, to go with the Rapunzel theme.

This one has long sleeves, so that she can stay warm in winter.

This is meant to be a fancy princess dress. It's a Rapunzel version of the Tiana Evening Star blue dress that I made.

And this is very much inspired by Rapunzel's classic dress, but meant to be more of an everyday version.

None of these are exact matches for anything that Rapunzel wears. It's more of a fun inspired-by collection. Even princesses need casual wear sometimes!

Disney Animator Sundress

 I made a quick sleeveless sundress for the Disney Animator dolls.

 I used the pattern  Requiem Art Designs Disney Animator Toddler Basic Dress.

This dress is to match one I made in AG size a few years back. You can see that dress at this blog link.

 

Hmm, I guess I could have added a waist band to make it a closer match. That's what I get for not checking pictures before sewing.

The dolls are ready for summer!

More Matching Dresses!

 I also made matching blue dresses for the little girl who has an 18 inch Madame Alexander doll and a Disney Animator Tiana.

These dresses are roughly inspired by Tiana's Evening Star dress.

The Disney Animator doll dress was made using a Requiem Art Designs pattern.

The 18 inch doll dress didn't really follow a pattern. I used the bodice from the Joan Hinds Sailor dress, because that was what I had out. Any basic doll dress bodice pattern would work.

I lined it in cotton for more stability.

I think I made the skirt about 40 inches wide by 8 inches long.

I bought a new spool of ribbon for the sasses on these dresses, and it was all used up. There is maybe enough left to make a matching headband.

I actually like the smaller blue dress better than the 18 inch one. The proportions look better. But it's all just meant to be fun to play with. I think I achieved that.

Matching Dresses!

 I made matching yellow dresses for the little girl that I know. One is for her 18 inch Madame Alexander doll, and one is for her Disney Animators Tiana.

I've already detailed three of these sailor dresses on this blog. They are made with a sailor dress pattern from Joan Hinds Heritage Doll clothes.

The Disney Animators doll dress is made with a Requiem Art Designs pattern.

The dresses aren't exact matches, but I think it's cute. It's harder to do the really fancy details on the smaller dolls, especially if you don't have an exact pattern.

Small Work Dress for Tiana

 This dress is inspired by Tiana's yellow work dress. It is sized for the Disney Animator dolls.

It's not really a sailor dress collar.

I kind of felt like, at this smaller size, this was close enough for a play dress for a Tiana doll.

I used the pattern  Requiem Art Designs Disney Animator Toddler Basic Dress.

I made the sleeves longer and used the dropped waist.

It's a cute little dress!

Snow White is my model, because I bought her at the thrift store for modelling purposes.

Seeing Snow White in this dress with her hair in braids makes me want to sew her a Wednesday Addams dress, haha.

The dress will be going to a little girl that I know who owns the Disney Animator Tiana.

Here is the dress together with one of the AG sized sailor dresses that I made.

Tiana Blue Dress

 I made a rough version of Tiana's Evening Star blue dress for the Disney Animator dolls.

Mine is not as fancy as the American Girl version. I knew it would be different, but I thought that this is a good play dress version.

I used the Requiem art Designs Disney Animator Toddler Basic Dress pattern.

The pattern has different lengths for the bodice. I felt that either the natural waist or the dropped waist would work. I used the dropped waist because it's the 1920s and it would provide for room for the wide ribbon sash.

I made the skirt longer than the pattern- I think I cut it at 6.5 inches by 30 inches.

I even had the perfect blue satin in my stash! I just bought some glittery blue ribbon for the sash.

The satin is challenging to work with. I lined the dress with white cotton to provide stability, and did a zig zag stitch around the edges of the skirt before I started sewing with it.

Matching 1920s Christmas dresses

 These dresses were made in a hurry for a little girl who had COVID. I wanted to give them to her grandma so I didn't have to pay for shipping, so I didn't get a picture of the dolls wearing the clothes.

The girl has a 16 inch Disney Animator Tiana, and a 18 inch Madame Alexander doll named Mary.

I was going to 1920s style dresses, since that would be appropriate for Tiana.

I thought it was super cute to  make them matching Christmas dresses! 

The Disney Animator  dress was made using the Requiem Arts Designs Disney Animator Dress Basics  pattern.

The 18 inch doll dress was made using the Dolls at Hearts Vera dress pattern. 

Both dresses fit the dolls, and made their owner very happy!

I was relieved, since I did not have a Disney Animator doll to use as a model to test the fit.

Dress for Tiana

 A little girl of my acquaintance asked me to make some dresses for her Disney Animators doll Tiana.

I do not have a Disney Animators doll to model. I bought the Dress Basics pattern from Requiem Art Designs.

The first dress I made was a simple sundress with green fabric that I think is vaguely froggy, and thus appropriate for Tiana.

It was a bit plain on its own, so I added pink ribbons to pep it up a bit.

It looks funny standing there on its own! I hope it fits the doll well.

I plan to make a few more dresses before I mail them to their new owner.

Pattern Review: Doll Tag Clothing Hospital Patient

 This was a sad project to have to sew.

I have a younger cousin in elementary school who needs to get ear surgery this month.

I felt really bad that I lived too far away to offer any practical aid. 

So instead I did what I do best, and I sewed doll clothes.

I made the Doll Tag Clothing Hospital Patient pattern, and I made doll sized hospital gowns.

The hospital gown pattern is very easy to make. To be honest, I am not sure why I already owned it, but I was really glad that I did.

The pattern was only two pattern pieces, front and back. It was so easy. That was good, because I was in a sleep fog and didn't have a lot of brain cells to devote to figuring out the pattern.

It is also very clever. The hospital gown overlaps in the back so that you don't have doll butt hanging out. I thought it was worth the price, even though it's an easy pattern.

I also used the Requiem Art Designs Face Masks pattern to make matching face masks.

I hope that it helps my cousin feel a little bit better about her procedure.

There are three cousins of the same age, and each one is getting a face mask and hospital gown.

I am not going to be accused of favorites, no way!

Two Pattern Reviews!

I made two doll clothes patterns in a hurry last night.

Requiem Art Designs released a free pattern for doll sized face masks. You can find the pattern here.

Knowing that my library has an American Girl doll that can be checked out, I thought it would be nice to make her a face mask, and we could put pictures on social media of the doll modelling socially responsible behavior during the pandemic.

BUT if we were going to put the doll on social media, I should hurry up with a project from my back burner list, and make her a T-shirt with the library logo on it.

Luckily, I had all the items that I needed to make this happen, including a T-shirt with the library logo on it that I could cut up.

I used the Liberty Jane Baseball T-shirt pattern for the T-shirt. This pattern is on Pixie Faire.

Knowing that this doll is a chubby Pleasant Company doll and that the Liberty Jane patterns are tight, I added space in the front and back of the T-shirt.  Good thing that I did, it fits her perfectly, although the sleeves are a little tight.

As soon as I finished sewing, my neighbor texted me with the news that my library is closing, possibly until the end of May.

Today is the last day that we are open. It's stressful.

My co-workers are delighted with the doll's new wardrobe.  We have been taking lots of pictures to post on social media, and it's giving everyone a much-needed smile.

We have decided to name the doll Wilhelmina, as the school mascot is named Willie Warhawk.

I think she is a Girl of Today #14, also known as Just Like You #14, whatever you call the modern line of AG dolls.

A note on the mask pattern: I used bias tape to hold the mask on the doll's head, as I had it on hand, but it makes the sides of the mask stand out from her face a little bit. I think very thin elastic would be better.

Hoodies Galore!

Here is a group picture of my Hearts for Hearts dolls wearing the hoodies I have made so far from the Requiem Art Designs hoodie pattern.

Panda hoodie

This is the sixth hoodie that I have made from the Requiem Art Designs hoodie pattern.

It's a panda!

 Hearts for Hearts doll Surjan is my lovely model.

There are a lot of panda themed clothing items out there, but I think this one is super cute.

I want to make hoodies for all of my Hearts for Hearts dolls.

What is next? A polar bear? A pig?

I honestly haven't decided yet.

Some animals just won't translate well as a hoodie- turtles and seals for instance. It would be really hard to make a giraffe with its spots. Ditto Tigger and his stripes.

I have thought of a penguin, but I am not sure it would look good.

Elephant Hoodie

This hoodie is made, again, from the Requiem Art Designs 14 inch hoodie pattern.

It is supposed to be an elephant. The pattern did not include a pattern for elephant ears, so I drew one myself.

Nahji from Hearts for Hearts dolls is modelling the hoodie.

It kind of looks like an elephant, and it also kind of looks like a mouse.

If I meant to make a mouse hoodie, I would have put the ears higher up on the head.

It's still really cute!

And it is getting cold where I live, so it makes me feel better that the dolls have something warm to wear.

I also like that they have something to wear besides their meet outfits.

They look much happier now.

Eeyore Hoodie

Here is Hearts for Hearts doll Shola modelling an Eeyore hoodie!

This is once again made from the Requiem Art Designs Hoodie pattern.

I am having so much fun with this pattern!

It may be hard to see, but the ears have a purple lining, and I also added Eeyore's mane.

It's so cute!

Now Eeyore and Piglet can hang out together!

SO CUTE.

Eevee/ Flareon Hoodie

Here is another hoodie I made from the Requiem Art Designs Hoodie pattern for 14 inch dolls.

, I am only vaguely aware of Pokemon.

My brother collected Pokemon, and once a younger cousin played Pokemon with me.
I could not hear what he was telling me about the rules and I was trying to let him win anyway.

I was making a hoodie to swap with Nethilia of American Girl Outsider.

I knew she was making Pokemon hoodies, so I thought I would make a Eevee hoodie using the fabric from the fox hoodie. I have always thought of Eevee as the fox Pokemon.

Someone on Facebook told me that Eevee is more brown and white, and this hoodie looks more like Flareon.

I tried, okay?

Whether it's Eevee or Flareon, I think this hoodie is super cute.

It has a tail in the back, too.

I made the white markings around the shoulders go all the way to the back, also.

These three hoodies look super cute together.

I am having so much fun with these hoodies!

I highly recommend getting this pattern! It is so fun!

Fox Hoodie!

I made another hoodie from the 14 inch Requiem Designs Pattern.

This time I made a fox!

When I was little, I was not afraid of monsters under the bed. Oh no.

I was afraid of a fox in the closet.

I don't think anyone could be afraid of this adorable fox!

I did make the fox because of my childhood fear. I thought it would be funny.

I worked hard to replicate the markings of a fox as best I could, like making black-tipped ears.

I think it's really cute.

She also has a tail!

And just wait, because I have more hoodies made with this pattern!

Pattern Review: Requiem Art Designs 14 Inch Hoodie

Requiem Art Designs released another pattern for 14 inch dolls. This one is a hoodie.

I made a Piglet hoodie!

I have always been a Winnie the Pooh fan.

It was so easy to make this pattern into Piglet.

And it is SO cute.

 What's not to love?

Here is Piglet, for comparison purposes.

This pattern was very easy to make. It has raglan sleeves, which are very easy to make and also worked perfectly for differentiating between Piglet's arms and the onsie/bathing suit that he wears.

The hoodie has a slit in the back to let the doll's hair out, which works so well.

I had to take a full body picture to show that Tipi is wearing pink shoes to match her hoodie.

Consuelo and Tipi are happy to show off their new clothes!

I really like this pattern. It was easy, and I have so many ideas for different combos to make.

It's a great piece of clothing for colder weather, and it doubles as a Halloween costume!

Animal Hoodie Ideas to Sew

I have so many ideas for making these adorable animal hoodies from Requiem Art Designs for 14 inch dolls.

For several days, my main idea was to make a fox hoodie. I went out and bought the fabric and everything.

Then I thought of Winnie the Pooh.

And it would be easy to make Piglet to go along with Pooh bear.

And, oh! A red panda!

Reindeer for Christmas!

There are so many cute possibilities. And just in time for Halloween, too!
