Thrift Store Find: Samantha's Ice Cream Parlor

I went to the thrift store on Saturday, and I found an amazing haul!

They had the back wall of Samantha's Ice Cream Parlor.

It was marked as $12, but it had been there for thee weeks, and no one bought it, so it was marked down to $6.

$6 for this amazing piece, made of wood, with the gorgeous mirror and fake marbling!

It's my first Big Ticket Item, and it was definitely not something that I was looking for or that I had dreamed of owning.

It is amazing, though, and I am so happy to have it!

The thrift store did not have any other pieces from the set, as far as I could tell. I went around the store three times, looking for any of the pieces.

One drawback is that it is hard to take pictures of it without getting in the shot myself, due to the mirror.

I have been joking that this wouldn't be a problem if I was a vampire.

I didn't have much luck getting Samantha and Nellie to look the same way for a picture, either.

What do you think, is it my best thrift store find yet? It might well be!

I know that finding any of the original pieces that belong to this set will probably be pricey, so that is not high on my list.

I may get the retro Our Generation milkshake maker to go with it for now, since the price is right.

Nellie Pictures

And here are some Nellie pictures.

She is a cute one.

She is one of a growing number of dolls that I need to restring. Sigh.

I couldn't find the parts that I need for restringing at Home Depot, but I know they are there!

Who doesn't love looking at fabric at the General Store? This is a smaller store than Nellie is used to, but she likes it anyway?

Let's buy some shoes, Nellie! This is a historic show store.

This is a historic Catholic church. Perfect for Nellie!

This house is the home of an Irish immigrant. Nellie felt very at home there!

Hello, Nellie!

Yeah, I really need to post more! Sorry!

I have been posting on Instagram, if anyone is interested. My handle is @igsbeth.

My most recent thrift store find is Nellie O'Malley!

She was wearing Felicity's Christmas gown.

I had to hurry to get pictures of her. It was starting to rain, and she's very floppy. Thus, these pictures were very hurried.

Here's Nellie in the dress that she came in.

And here she is changed into a more period-appropriate dress.

I need to do some hospital work. Nellie, Samantha and Rachel all need restringing.

I am going to try to do that soon and to post more as well!

AG Trading Cards: Meet Samantha

On the front of this trading card, Samantha and Nellie looks so scared as they look up at Lincoln.

The back of this card says:

Samantha was very upset because no one would tell her why Jessie had stopped working for Grandmary. Samantha and Nellie slipped away in the night to Jessie and Lincoln's house to find out what had happened. They discovered Jessie had left because

1. She'd had a new baby

2. She'd been kidnapped

3. She'd gone to New Orleans to be a singer.

Answer: 1

Poor Nellie had a lot more to lose from sneaking out at night than Samantha did.

AG Trading Cards: Meet Samantha

I love this picture of Nellie looking so sweetly at the doll Lydia! What a cute trading card.

The back of the card says:

Samantha let her friend Nellie play with her new doll, Lydia. Nellie's family was very poor, and she had never had a doll of her own.

Grandmary had bought Lydia for Samantha at Schofield's Toy Store. The doll cost as much as Nellie would earn after working at the Ryland's for six weeks. How much did the doll cost?

1. $2.50

2. $6.00

3. $10.00

Answer: 2

AG Trading Cards:Meet Samantha

This picture of Samantha giving her treasured doll, Lydia, to Nellie absolutely tugs at the heartstrings.

The Nellie in this illustration barely resembles the doll Nellie. They have the same hair length, and that is all.

Molly Thrift Store Find

I found Pleasant Company's trunk for Molly! It was $20 and I found it in a pile of stuff in the garage (!) of my local thrift store. It...
