Eleventh Doctor Coat

 I made the coat of the Eleventh Doctor from Doctor Who.

This one was really tricky to get a fabric that would work for it.

I was happy to find a small tweed patterned fabric at Joann. It might be easier to make the plum colored version of the coat, actually.

I used Simplicity pattern 8111.

For the other two Doctor Who coats I made, I added pockets. I didn't add pockets on this one, because the fabric was thick and hard to get the pattern to match up. It has tabs to looks like pockets, and one of them is too low and needs to be adjusted.

I DID add patches on the sleeves!

I think it's cute.

I really liked this coat and its fit. I may make the pattern in some other colors as well. 

It just sort of flares gently at the bottom, and I love it.

Thirteenth Doctor Coat

 Using the Liberty Jane Oxford Square coat pattern, I made a doll sized replica of the Thirteenth Doctor's coat from Doctor Who. 

I altered the pattern a bit. I made the coat longer, wider in the front, and I also made the hood pattern longer on the end so it would meet up with the sides of the coat.

The coat is grey, with a royal blue lining. I used 5/8 inch rainbow ribbon to match the inside lining of the coat.

It has a hood. It does not have any closure such as velcro or buttons.

The pockets do not match the pockets on the full-sized Thirteenth Doctor coat, which are set at more of a slant. This detail bugs me a tiny bit, BUT I feel like the Doctor needs pockets that hold things.

I can change it if I make it again. I made altered pattern pieces and set them aside for future reference.

This picture shows both Doctor coats together. I suppose I should made the coat for the Eleventh Doctor, since that is included in Simplicity 8111. I need to find appropriate fabric that is scaled small first.

Pattern Review: Simplicity 8111

 I made the Tenth Doctor's Coat from Doctor Who. Finally!

I have had the pattern for ages.

Then I actually sewed this several months ago, but didn't have the courage to made the buttonholes.

I have added the buttonholes, and it's done!

Mara is modelling the coat here.

As you can see from the sleeves, I used a blue lining to match the Doctor's coat.

I added real pockets instead of just decorative tabs. The Doctor has to keep his screwdriver somewhere!

It has a kick pleat in the back of the coat.

This picture shows Mara's feet, so you can get a better idea of the length.

I felt that with this coat's construction, it needed to have real buttonholes and I couldn't cheat by adding velcro instead. You could put snaps under the buttons, but they would be visible when the coat hangs open.

I am really pleased to have this coat in my collection, and I made it myself! An accomplishment for me.

Adieu, Adipose

The title of this blog is just me being silly, because I am not saying adieu but bonjour to my first FunkoPop!

This little guy is an Adipose from Doctor Who. I love the fourth season episode this comes from, where the Doctor and Donna join forces together.

I have been debating the purchase of this Adipose for a year or so, so it was time to take the plunge!

FunkoPops are usually very stylized and cartoony.
I like this guy because he looks just like one of the Adipose from the episode!
He didn't get the FunkoPop stylization treatment because, let's face it, he already looked stylize and cartoony. LOL.

Plus, he's really cute.

He is going to sit in my kitchen and remind me to eat healthily!

Barbie dress for Makies

I was looking at the Lori dolls at Target when I saw that Barbie had some individual clothes on sale.

Some of these individual outfits were as low as 2.99, others were I think 5.99.

One of these dresses caught my eye. The style seemed very much like something River Song would wear. The color- which was bright pink- not so much. But at 2.99, what did I have to lose?

And it turns out to be a solid win. The outfit fits River like it was made for her. The dress is of course longer on her than it would be on Barbie. I like that, it is more elegant. I would like it even better if it reached her ankles.

The color of course is still  problematic for River. She is ashamed that she even has shoes that match this. Her story is that she is on disguise as she carries out a spy mission for the Doctor.

I might consider dying the dress, but I don't think the mesh on the top would take the dye well, and I don't want the color to rub off on the doll. Sewing that material at this tiny size is also out of my skill set, so I can't copy it. I guess River is stuck with the dress as it is!

A Dress For River

I don't know why I find this size of doll so hard to sew for, I swear that the tiny Ai doll dresses are easier.

But anyway, here is a new dress for River! She can't resist dancing in it!

I used a Barbie dress pattern, and while it could use a few minor adjustments, it works overall.

The most important changes that I would make are moving the darts for the bust up and making them a bit smaller, and making the waist just a bit wider, like a quarter of an inch.

I did take in the seam under the armpits a bit also. The dress was too narrow at the waist but baggy on the top. 

This dress was something of a test- some day I would like to create outfits for her that are duplicates of those on Doctor Who.

Play Date

Today I had a grown-up play date with Mcooper from American Girl Collectors.

I brought Samantha Parkington and River Song.

I had been wanting to take pictures of Samantha in her sailor dress for a while now. And Mcooper has offered to teach me how to restring her! Yay! There is no denying she is very, very wobbly.

Grace and River were so pleased to meet another doll with wild, curly red hair. They immediately took a selfie.

We wandered around the park, carrying dolls with us. Trees were climbed:

And so were fences.

A good time was had by all.

And then we all went home and took a well-deserved nap.

Yay for doll friends!

River Song

River is here!

Her hair IS very red, which is a little disappointing. It looked brown in the online maker. But at least it is gloriously curly!

She is VERY pose-able. 

She was very glad to get her hands on a gun. I found this one by searching ebay for 1/6 scale toy guns. It came with a holster and is just right for a Silence-trained assassin.

One thing I was surprised about was just how light she is. She is much lighter than some of my dolls of similar size.

River met an alien while exploring. Luckily, she is used to this kind of situation (she married an alien, after all!) and they quickly made friends. 

It was really hard to get her to sit- her legs won't go straight out in front of her and she had to sit on something- and I could not get her to kneel at all.

Her shoes are 3 D printed as well, and they don't stay on her feet well,

Also, I ordered a set of shoes to come with her, and those are the ones she is wearing. I think she was supposed to come with a pair of shoes of her own, in addition to the extras that I ordered, but she did not.

Another flaw is that her eyes are held in place with an eye mechanism, and one of her eyes slipped out of place within the eye mechanism when I was showing her to someone yesterday. He was taking pictures, she had one eye crooked, and it was making me crazy.

Makies are 3D printed dolls that you can design yourself. They are made in London. These little dolls are great posers from what I hear.

I do not have one yet, but she is on her way!

I broke down and ordered a Makie because they were on sale and because I wanted a River Song doll. I love River Song, and I hate the action figures that are out there. This would be a cartoonish representation of River Song, of course. I really liked the doll I designed. and the sale was the tipping point.

River was mailed today, and her picture was posted on the Makie Instagram account!

She doesn't look exactly the way I pictured her, but not in a bad way. In an intriguing way.
She looks paler than I though, and her hair is more reddish, and she looks surprisingly serene.

I am trying to decide if I will touch up her face-up when she arrives. I also really want a toy gun for her- and I am eyeing a dress on etsy.

 I am looking forward to seeing her in person.

She needs to hurry up and get here!

When last we left the Swine Trek...

The Muppet Show had one recurring skit, the Swine Trek, in which Captain Link Hogthrob, Miss Piggy, and Dr. Julius Strangepork met unusual obstacles in outer space.

To quite the Muppet Wiki, Link Hogthrob is a blonde, cleft-chinned pig with a high opinion of himself.

Dr. Julius Strangepork is an elderly pig who serves as the scientist on board the Swine Trek,

And Miss Piggy- well, Miss Piggy is Miss Piggy.

Of course, the Swine Trek is a parody of Star Trek. Now that I have seen Star Trek, I appreciate Link Hogthrob all the more. Captain Kirk annoys me. Link is a complete dunce, but still preferable.

Palisades made a playset of the Swine Trek that came with Miss Piggy. To my deep regret, I could not afford it when it came out and the one playset I have, the backstage theater, takes up quite enough room, thank you very much.

However, today Link and Strangepork found themselves aboard quite a different spaceship.

This one is called the TARDIS- Time and Relative Dimension in Space.

They don't know quite what to make of it.

There are some weird shipmates.

Dr. Strangepork does not really want to admit that he does not understand the science- but the again, he never does.

Is that a Dalek or is it M. A. M. M. A., the musical robot?

Our heroes have not been made into bacon- it must be safe after all.

Although Link still prefers to have as many people between him and the machine as possible. Just to be safe.
