Pattern Review: Simplicity Pattern 8314

This dress is made from Simplicity pattern 8314, designed by Keepers Dolly Duds.

It's a simple pattern, and the basic dress went together very easily.

THEN I had to applique 11 dancing starfish around the hem.

Oy.

It wasn't that hard, really, just fiddly and time consuming.

The starfish go all around the dress. It would have been far too easy to just applique the front, ha.

I got the idea for this dress from Dead Man's Chest, part of the Miss Fisher mystery series by Kerry Greenwood.

In the book, Dot buys a simple ivory shift with appliqued starfish dancing around the hem.

The dress sounded easy enough to make, and it haunted me.

It's a very pretty dress, and I am happy with how it turned out!

Perfect for a summer day!
