Vintage Doll: Betsy McCall

I first saw Betsy McCall at an exhibit on toys at the Missouri History Museum. My friend and I both really loved the 1950s Betsy McCall on display there. So I decided to get her a Betsy McCall doll for her birthday!

Addy's Wardrobe: Addy's Christmas Dress

 Addy's Christmas dress is a very important one in her story.

Momma makes the dress for a rich customer, who returns it and shouts at Momma because the dress no longer fits, due to her daughter's growth.  Momma's employer re-sews the dress so that it fits Addy and gives it to her for Christmas.

Felicity's Wardrobe: Laced Jacket and Petticoat

Felicity is my childhood doll. She was a gift from Santa. I collected most of her wardrobe that was available in the 1990s by babysitting and saving up. The only thing that I did not get was her breeches. I do regret that now, but at the time I only cared about her dresses.

Since all of her wardrobe that I own is now retired, I decided that I desperately needed to take pictures of her wearing her various dresses and share the pictures with my readers.

I am starting off with her school dress. This outfit is officially known as the Laced Jacket and Petticoat.

Melody's Play Outfit

I just bought Melody's Play Outfit. I didn't like this when I first saw it. Mostly that was because I didn't like the triangular bottom of the shirt, especially the tassels.

Pussy Hats Encore

Thanks to IGSBeth, some of my girls have pussy hats now too! Melody is leading the march!

But wow, who knew sweet little Melody could fight like that. She got Saige on the floor to get her hat for herself, and the whole time Melody was yelling, "I'm the Civil Rights girl, I get the pussy hat!" Wow! 

And then was all sweetness and light as soon as she got the hat.

After that, no one argued when Melody wanted to be the leader.

Saige is pretty unhappy I never found the OG Under the Weather set though. She could really use some dolly aspirin and an ice pack right about now.

Vintage Doll- Linda

This is another one of my mom's dolls. Her name is Linda.

My mom had two cousins named Louise and Linda, and she named two of her dolls after them. The doll named Louise did not survive to my own childhood.

Linda is I think meant to be a baby doll that you can feed with a bottle. There is a gap between her lips that seems to be meant for a bottle.

She has sleep eyes and her limbs can be moved up and down in a circle. They hold a pose well.

Her hair is not soft at all and not pleasant to touch. It's kind of like toothbrush bristles.

The dress she is wearing was also made by my grandmother. None of the original store dresses belonging to my mom's dolls survived.

My sister and I enjoyed playing with Linda as kids and she is a very sturdy doll.

New American Girl Simplicity patterns!

Simplicity has released two new official American Girl doll patterns. The patterns have matching girls' size patterns!

There is pattern Simplicity 8359, which has a Western look.

This pattern has  matching girls' size pattern, Simplicity 8350.

Next is Simplicity pattern 8360.

The girl's size pattern for this one is Simplicity pattern 8349.

I continue to be delighted that American Girl is making official doll patterns.

These two patterns seem rather alike to me, with the ruffled skirts on both. They just have different sleeves and fabrics. There is no doubt that I will grab both, however!

Addy's Wardrobe: Pink Meet Dress

I have been trying to take pictures of Addy in her original meet dress for a while now. 

I had limited success, because winter.

But here she is!

Melody's Elephant

I love the elephant in Melody's bedroom set, but I didn't want to buy the set just for the elephant!

Besides, my favorite stuffed animal as a kid was a pink elephant. The elephant sold by American Girl is the wrong color!

Luckily, Wren*Feathers shared a toy elephant pattern so that I could make my own!

Isn't it cute?

Here is a picture with Bo for size comparison.

I am very happy with it! This is the first time I have sewed a toy animal in 3D, and it went really well!

Bojangles the dog

It just occurred to me the reason that I like Bo so much is that he has a slight resemblance to my childhood dog.

It took me this long to notice.

So Bo is a small black and white dog....

And we had a small black and white mutt, who was half Shi Tzu, named Pepper.

Yeah, that's a bad picture of her, (she's yawning) and it's a slight resemblance at best.
